Rides in the Rain by Patrick C. Healy
Trust and The Modern Man
Whatever happened to trust
Is it now a relic with rust
Has integrity become so blurred
That trust now so rarely occurs
What became of the trustful man
Where is his faithful woman
Created from his torn rib
Cursed because of her fib
Together they toil the earth
Delicious sin and painful birth
Liars with broken hearts
Destined to endlessly part
Can this be our ceaseless road
No royalty left but only toads
Multiplying faster than new math
Whoa to you on this winding path
Remember where trust came
Be loyal and nurture love’s flame
Turn away from deceit and lies
Find wisdom and love’s prize
Turn away our heart’s lust
Find the one to forever trust
Love’s a Crazy Ride
Sometimes you have to lose
In order for someone else to win
Sometimes it’s best to leave things confused
Than to reveal another’s sin
Life can sometimes make us feel betrayed
Like we are knocked down to the ground
Leaving our heart hopelessly frayed
Grabbed by a potential lover and then bound
Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless is a lover’s heart
Pounding away from the very first day
And she never had any interest from the start
But that didn’t stop my heart from pounding away
No matter how I tried, nothing I did interested her
Then comes the realization that there’s nothing there
The unforgiving memory long ago shattered into a blur
So you pick up the pieces and wonder if love is fair
You move on shaking your head wishing you can hide
You’re thinking why I ever dared to think they cared
Love is an unpredictable emotion and love is a funny ride
And no matter how much or how many times you swear
It grabs you again by the hair and off you go on that crazy ride
Jakarta Lovers’ Rain
We walk together in the darkened Jakarta rain
Tear drops running down your eyes from all the pain
The taxi is comes to a halt and pulls up beside me
You get in and shout please don’t wait for me baby
The bird less skies with their grey eyes
Keep pouring trouble down upon those they despise
Sometimes I just want it all too quickly disappear
But the never ending rain causes all to smear
This rain just keeps pouring down upon me
I haven’t yet figured out who I want to be
Heard the streets are lined with bright shiny gold
But every time I go to get my share it’s covered with mold
Life’s prediction are now gloomy and with unusual overcasts
Only drizzled blurry images survive from the past
My friends say you are a blessing and a curse
Start to feel happy and then from there it just gets worse
People of all kinds fill the rain soaked muddy streets
They walk quickly splashing puddles with their sandaled feet
Nothing shines anymore only see the dullness of their routine
Wonder if all this rain against the hot day sun is producing all my steam
Praying for a cool wind to drive the ever present clouds far away
This Jakarta rain is merciless and the price is too great to pay
It’s all the lies the relentless lies that make me want to scream
Too many disguises with lovers deceits being washed away by the Jakarta rain
A little girl dressed in rainbow colors comes up to me with her hand out
I am not sure why but she somehow brings the morning sun about
Her mom with a nursing baby in her arms watches us from nearby
The downpour starts again and I give her some coins and say good bye
You and me and the unrelenting rain just can’t keep pace
Just can’t comprehend why we wear these masks to hide our face
I am angry now with a burning passion saved away for a rainy day
Really wishing you would go away and come back another day

Not bad for a clone, or a real person, it doesn’t matter either way — though it would be in a world where religions, intellect, even sexuality are being exploited to satisfy others’ manipulative, shallow ways. The poems are well-written nonetheless, Patrick. Kudos!
All the best to you too!
Thank you so much Marisa. The 3 poems are a mix of everyday reality and the absurdness of our times as you so eloquently observed in your earlier post. Always a pleasure to be part of your blog as you are always fearless and often on the cutting edge in your pursuit of innovative presentations of modern life.
