Football Channel Poems by Patrick C. Healy
Darfur Nielsen Ratings
There is a conflict in Darfur
No mass appeal for this war
Seems no one pays attention, just can’t make the connection
Just a bunch of Africans dying on the television
The Nielsen ratings are way too low
To send in Uncle Sam’s GI Joes
They are all alone and people nobody is willing to rescue
Too many distractions from other more important news venues
There is a war in Darfur
But no one cares as the people are just too poor
Just not going to let them on our TVs unless their Nielsen ratings soar
So much better violence on CNN to put up with this boar
From an IED bomber attacks in Iraq
To an exploding man in Afghanistan
Every hot spot country from Iran to Pakistan
All have a media plan but not impoverished Sudan
The world news is about to pull the plug on the war in Darfur
No new advertising dollars are there to explore
Each day more and more babies die in the desert of the Sudan
Just not interesting to the public so toss the film in the garbage can
Even George Clooney can’t sell Darfur with his star power
There is no more prime time for this dying desert flower
We just don’t want to watch it anymore
Please just turn the channel and get the latest football scores
I got my religion…
I got my religion and you got yours too!
Although mine’s better than yours and you should know that’s true
But you deny my truths and declare them lies
The hell with you as that’s my God’s surprise
I got my religion and you got yours too!
So let’s fight and die ’cause that’s what we do
Why my God can’t they see?
You hate them but You love me
I got my religion and you got yours too!
On and on against each other Christian, Moslem and Jew
Where we going and where is the truth?
Can I ever find it among the uncouth?
I got my religion and you got yours too!
The world is waiting for something to do
Oh! Oh! the humanity
Oh! Oh! Oh! the uncertainty

OOT. Sorry for the earlier inconvenience — 404s and database not establishing connection. Seems like WordPress has Permalink issues and I was resetting stuffs in MySQL. Cheers!

Off topic, sorry Patrick, but the links in your feed and hence in my feed reader are using the pretty permalinks, but on the site you’re using unpretty permalinks, hm, so the feed links are going 404.
Wonder if Patrick and I are related… my Grandma’s a Healy…
Like the poems…
Hi Marisa - Many thanks for showing my work on your site. Really feel very grateful and humbled by your generosity. About if I am real or not? The answer is yes, sometimes!
@Patung - Appreciate your great site at IM so very much and all you have done.
@Timdog - Your really a cat? Yes my friend, discussing the family tree will definitely be on our agenda for discussion when we meet for the pub crawl of Jakarta. Thanks for liking my poems.

” Patrick I really like your poems as you have really good talent”
These are great poems and particularly “got my religion”. Whenever my girl friend and I discuss religion we always end up in an argument. This poem expresses how I feel after we finish arguing.
