Blog Action Day 2008 for Poverty

On October 15th – Blog Action Day, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind. Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day.

Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion. By doing so on the same day, the blogging community effectively changes the conversation on the web and focuses audiences around the globe on that issue.

Global issues like poverty are extremely complex. There is no simple, clear answer. By asking thousands of different people to give their viewpoints and opinions, Blog Action Day creates an extraordinary lens through which to view these issues. Each blogger brings their own perspective and ideas. Each blogger posts relating to their own blog topic. And each blogger engages their audience differently.

Bloggers Unite For Refugees

On November 10th, join thousands of bloggers around the world in BlogCatalog’s Bloggers Unite for Refugees. The outcome we are after is to be part of the largest group of bloggers to ever blog about an important cause, all on the same day.

Bloggers UniteThe core cause of Bloggers Unite and Refugees United is information. Information leads to empowerment. Refugees United enables destitute refugees to take matters into their own hands. Bloggers Unite enables ordinary folks to make an extraordinary difference.

It is very difficult to reach refugees in remote areas. By advancing the power of blogs, bloggers are effectively placed in a position to fulfill a job that could not be done without the power of the internet and the skills that bloggers possess to quickly and effectively raise the necessary awareness and aid about critical social causes.

We hope you will join us, as together we harness the expression of the blogosphere to reunite family members who have been separated from each other.

The Darfur Wall

Darfur, Sudan is the site of the world’s most dire crisis. Since 2003, over 400,000 people have died at the hands of the Sudanese government and Janjaweed militias. Millions have been forced from their homes. We the international community have done little to stop the genocide.

The numbers 1 to 400,000 cover the 40 panels of The Darfur Wall. Each number represents a person killed in Darfur. By donating $1 or more you can light a number, turning it from dark gray to brilliant white. As we light the wall, we acknowledge the importance of each life lost, we cast light upon a tragedy too many have ignored, and we overcome one barrier to peace.

The Darfur Wall has already raised over $30,000 from donors in 30 countries. 100% of donations benefit four Darfur relief organizations: Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, Save Darfur and Sudan Aid Fund / Eric Reeves.
