- Republik Mimpi
Since 14th August 2006, Republik Mimpi (also known as newsdotcom) has been paving its way to become the country’s determined pioneer of televised political parody. It eventually did, not all shows made it. The show that is broadcasted by the national television station, METRO TV, is now considered one of the most influential show in the country. Implicitly.
Year 2007 has given quite of a bumpy start for Republik Mimpi: on February, PT. HM Sampoerna as its primary sponsor end its contract with the show and on March, there have been certain friction between the show’s producer and conceptor, Effendi Ghazali, with Sofyan Djalil, then the country’s minister of communication and information (prior to the cabinet reshuffle).
Politically incorrect jokes and parody isn’t exactly an invention of the mainstream media, it’s already there in every living room, office cubicles, campus cafeterias, and blogs, mocking the pretentious bureaucracy–Republik Mimpi merely made it valuable, reallistic, and on-screen. The show is infamous for impersonating the nation’s political authorities, elitists, or famous figures; vaguely presenting Si Butet Yogya as Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Jarwo Kuat as Jusuf Kalla, Gus Pur as Gus Dur, Habudi as Habibie, Soeharta as Soeharto, Megawati as Megakarti, and so forth. Republik Mimpi also encourage *serious* discussion on a certain subject by lending a voice to those significant enough to be heard. Its studio audience is mainly constituted of students wearing almamater jackets–something to denote that Republik Mimpi also aims for the Gen Y demographic.
How to say Republik Mimpi in English? The Dreaming Republic.
Gitu aja ko repot.
