  2. The World, Plugged In: Essential Plugins For Writing and News Blogs

2nd.

Here is a list of essential WordPress plugins perfectly suitable for writers, reviewers, journalists, reporters, media institutions, and online magazine sites using WordPress publishing software. Some are already installed in this site so you could see how it works instantly. Not only you could use these plugins for your Wordpress blogs or WP-powered websites, but also to show how actively people from different parts of the world collaborate and encourage each other in global scale.

And as WordPress’ Codex would describe it:

Everything you see here, from the documentation to the code itself, was created by and for the community. WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it. (More than most commercial platforms.) It also means you are free to use it for anything from your cat’s home page to a Fortune 5 web site without paying anyone a license fee.

In order to make life easier, I’ve added the Download and Documentation links for each plugin. But still, don’t be reckless, please click on the plugin’s name to view official documentation by its author or if you want to check for demos and latest upgrades.

Post Templates

Newspapers sites require a common layout to be applied throughout a set of articles, as in a way like real newspapers do. This is a very useful plugin to set such specific template or layout for articles. Compatible with WP 2.3.

It happens quite often that a blogger publishes posts or static pages on a regular basis which have the same structure. Think about for example a “picture of the day” daily post. With current wordpress state, we need to spend a lot of time doing copy/paste between posts instead of actually writing content. Be happy because I have developped the missing plugin to maintain post templates and allow simple writting of regular posts.

Journalistic bloggers write and take or outsource pictures for their contents. The plugin will feature a slideshow of images concerning a specific story published as a post. It also works with Lightbox2. Note: If you’re more into video footages, grab wordTube plugin to feature media files.

Sometimes, website designers won’t allow content developers to add Images anywhere within the text layout. They’d rather prefer a consistent method to display them. There are hundreds of “inline image gallery plugins” out there. So this is mine: The Mini-Slides Plugin.

Feed Copyrighter

When your news feeds are syndicated to (and displayed on) other sites, some publishers preserve the articles as if are technically their own part of publications. This happens all the time, therefore in order to protect your articles, use this plugin to copyright them. Note: The plugin’s quite outdated, hence if there’s any conflict with newer versions of WordPress, try Planet Feed Copyrighter plugin –just download the file and activate the plugin.

This plugin adds a copyright message to your feed items. No customization is required. This acts as a deterrant to feed-stealers (you heard the word first here) who unscrupulously and blatantly displays your full feed contents (often with their own advertisements) in their site(s) without your permission.
