European Film Festival – Europe on Screen 2007
The European Film Festival “EUROPE ON SCREEN 2007” takes place from 26 October to 2 November 2007 in several European cultural centres in Jakarta. EUROPE ON SCREEN (EOS) will then travel to seven cities outside Jakarta, including; Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Banda Aceh, Medan, and Makassar from 3 to 25 November 2007.
This year, the festival will be devoted to the theme of “Multiculturalism” and celebrate the diversity of European culture.
The European Film Festival was held for the first time in Indonesia in 1990 and followed by the second festival in 1999. As of 2003, the European Film Festival has then been held annually as a joint effort of the European diplomatic and cultural representations in Indonesia.

Hello. You are now reading an article written by The Lightbeamers, published on 11Oct07 along with other notes on Arts and Culture, Events, Jakarta.
Still can't find the answer you're looking for?
Perhaps you'd find one from

Great, a major Festival on cinema. I am a lover of the silver screen.
The last ten movies I went to watch over the last few months in what we call over here an “arthouse”, were: “La vie en rose”( Olivier Dahan, France), “Ellen ten Damme” (Rod Hodselmans, Nederland), “Still Life”( Jia Zhangke, China), “Venus” (Roger Michell, Great Britain), “Pan’s Labyrinth” (Guillermo del Toro, Espagne), “Adam’s Apples” (Anders Thomas Jensen, Denmark), “Cronica de una fuga”( Israel Adrian Caetano, Argentina), “Irina Palm” (Sam Garbarski, Great Britain), “Summer Palace” (Lou Ye, China) en “Iklimle” (Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Turkey). The common denominator is they were made, not for the box office, but for the sake of art and the artist.
The quintessence of European cinema, as I see it, is quite unlike Hollywood. You will not find too much romantic comedy’s or action movies. The quality should be found instead in the quest of people trying to come to terms with the human condition.
I’m not acquainted with any of the titles mentioned in the program ( so after all I’m revealed as a cultural barbarian), but I really hope the movies at the Festival are representative of the most important qualities of European cinema.
By the way: are you in any way involved with the organization of the event?
Excellent taste, colson.
Nah, a friend requested this post.
But there were days I’ve befriended with those who steal books from British Council library (yeah. they exist. not urban legend.) …I don’t steal, I just never return them.
That makes me somewhat in debt with the European culture. :)
PS: British Council gave their library up couple of years later, handed it over to Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture. Somebody should make a movie about it, don’t you think?
Let’s give it a try.
Do you start by writing the script? Something like some mosaic story lines of, say, seven very different men and women living in Jakarta, who at the start of the movie, in one way or another – cop, culprit, bystander, whatever- all have to do with a theft at the British Council Library and from there on go blundering away their lives, until they they really meet each other at the end ( of course in RI’s Ministry of Education and Culture).
How about that?
@Colson
that sound like the movie CRASH :D
@Icha,
thanks for the post! YES!
wanna have a date to watch ‘em? :)
@ colson
No, I don’t write movie scripts. I fear for my own imagination.
But your idea sounds nice, sounds soooo Hollywood yeah?
Cult action thrilling movie with a little twist of drama innit. Whoa.. :)
Who gets to be the leading actor and actress?
Btw sorry for replying your comment so late, been busy in a quite devastating state.
@ SiMungil
A date? In a cultural event!? Blah, c’mon Mei… you know things better than that. :lol:
Date-able guys don’t watch this type of movies, dear. They watch Transformer.
